In collaboration with the University of Pittsburgh, you’ll be able to choose between two classes or one class plus participation in an internship placement. You’ll experience a culturally rich summer abroad accented by of high-level academic expertise and an opportunity to work on your portfolio using the world-class production capabilities of the Derek Jarman Lab, located on-site at the CAPA London Center.
The city of London will be your focus as you study, write critical essays, and analyze film history, and it will also act as an extension of your classroom with an emphasis on practical film production that sends you out to explore the city and gather footage. Earn 6 credits.

Earn 6 credits with two courses or one course and an internship and accompanying Global Internship Course.
You can opt to live in a shared apartment or a homestay (with your own room and two meals a day), all within commuting distance to the CAPA center.
A Zone 1-2 London Underground pass is included for use on the Tube (subway) and buses for students living in apartments. Zones 1-3 is included for students in homestays.
Enjoy a full-day excursion to Stonehenge and Bath (COVID-19 restrictions permitting). Social events and program activities include an arrival tea and a farewell dinner.
Participate in an internship opportunity, earn credit through the required accompanying Global Internships Course, and gain valuable skills. Note: Students interning in London require a visa.
Explore London through CAPA's My Global City events which may include touring multicultural Brixton, feasting on a curry dinner on Brick Lane, a Greenwich riverboat and walking tour, or an Abbey Road Beatles Magical Mystery Tour.
CAPA provides comprehensive support services for students to utilize during their time in London. The team is available throughout the duration of the program to assist and support students 24/7 with any emergency situations. Students will also have access to the Guardian study abroad safety app which includes emergency assistance and other support resources.

CAPA is committed to the health and wellness of our students while they are studying abroad in London. We maintain a comprehensive health and safety plan to ensure a safe and productive learning experience, and provide a variety of health and wellness tools and resources.
The London Film Program consists of four courses plus the option of either the Masterclasses or an internship placement and course. Courses consist of seminars, weekly screenings, and practical film production.
The Global Internship Course is designed to be completed alongside an internship placement, allowing students to earn academic credit. Students will attend weekly, discussion-led sessions that include educational support and mentoring in a classroom environment; develop personal and professional skills, learn to contextualize their internship experience socially and culturally, and employ the use of Globally Networked Learning technology to conduct a comparative global analysis with other CAPA students. At times, this analysis will be facilitated through CAPA Masterclasses led by professionals in a diverse range of fields.

This course will examine science fiction, horror, and noir/neogothic cinema and television from all eras, with emphasis on works that give London a major role in their story. Students will analyze such examples as disaster or alien invasion films that see the city as a site of devastation, horror films which render a familiar city frightening and strange, or noir explorations of London’s underbelly.

This course will explore the camera as a tool for the excavation of ordinary things scattered in the urban spaces of a modern metropolis. Students will develop an understanding of a theoretical framework; gain a related practical skillset; take their camera out into the city of London for hands-on exercises; and participate in readings, screenings, and course discussions that will facilitate their ability to experience the city with a critical and documentary approach.
