Favorite class abroad: Beginner Italian
Coming to Italy, I did not know any Italian, however, I am fluent in Spanish. This skill helped me a lot while learning Italian. I enjoyed learning about the culture and language. After a month or so, I started picking up some things people were saying in the streets, stores, but especially from my host family. The first time I understood an entire conversation between my host parents, I was so proud of myself. I hope to be able to use what I have learned in the future.
Study abroad highlight: I lived in a homestay with Italian hosts and had a completely different experience than students who lived in apartments with other students. At first, I was not sure if I had made the right decision. However, if I were to do it again, I would not change anything. I think that I was able to get more out of the experience because I was fully immersed in the culture. I will admit, it was a challenge and it is not for everyone. Not only did I learn about the Italian culture, I learned so much about myself. I was also lucky enough to travel to many different parts of Italy and Europe. This is basically the only time in your life where you will be able to travel this many places in such a short amount of time. The opportunities are endless studying abroad and I am so glad I took advantage of everything while I have been here. I have grown so much as a person.
