Buenos Aires is a colorful and electrifying Global City. It is also a diverse city with an immigrant population largely made up of Europeans and other Latin Americans. You can enjoy the local foods like a succulent churrasco (grilled steak), or partake in a cultural event such as watching a lively polo match.

This immersive study abroad program gives you insight into the significant ways in which Buenos Aires has been imagined, invented, and transformed by globalization. Choose from a range  of course options suitable for many majors, such as political science, economics, art, and literature. Earn 12-18 credits.

Experience

CAPA-led My Global City activities each term include a tour of Buenos Aires’ famous street murals and a visit to the Immigration Museum. Other activities may include visiting Teatro Colón, the Fiesta de Mataderos, a street fair, tango lessons, sporting events, language classes, and other activities that aim to bring CAPA and Argentine students together.

Live like a Porteño and stay in a homestay with your own room where breakfast and dinner are provided daily. Homestays are located within commuting distance of the CAPA Center. Plus, CAPA offers students Health & Wellness support.

Along with your CAPA cohort, study alongside local and other international students at Austral University, ranked the best private university in Argentina. Classes at the downtown location are taught in English while those students with a high level of Spanish are also able to take classes taught in Spanish at the Pilar campus. Spanish language learning classes are available but not required, and students can opt to enroll in CAPA's Global Internship Workshop with its accompanying part-time placement.

CAPA Buenos Aires Program Inclusions

 

CAPA program fees are comprehensive and include tuition, housing, excursions, My Global City events and activities, 24/7 emergency support, insurance, and more!

Courses & Credit

Earn 12-18 credits per semester (courses are 3 credits unless otherwise noted; internships are 3-6 credits). Credits are issued by State University of New York (SUNY) Oswego.

Housing

You will live in a homestay in a residential area within commuting distance to the CAPA center, where you will have your own room and two meals each day.

Local Transit Pass

A local transit pass is included for the length of the program.

Excursions & Activities

Experience a full-day excursion to an estancia, an Argentine cattle ranch, where you will learn about the ranching traditions of the gauchos, watch a showcase of traditional music and dancing, and enjoy an asado (a classic Argentine barbecue). Social events include an arrival reception, mid-term dinner, and a farewell ceremony.

Intern & Volunteer

Earn 3 or 6 credits with an optional part-time internship placement. You can choose to complete an internship in English or Spanish. You must have completed at least four semesters of Spanish to participate in a Spanish-language placement.

My Global City

CAPA-led activities each term include a tour of Buenos Aires’ famous street murals and a visit to the Immigration Museum, housed in the building where countless people stayed after leaving their homelands and loved ones in search of a better life. Mate on Tuesday is a weekly informal gathering where students can enjoy a favorite local beverage. Other activities vary by semester and reflect what is on at the time.

Comprehensive, 24/7 Support

CAPA provides comprehensive support services for students to utilize during their time in Buenos Aires. The team is available throughout the duration of the program to assist and support students 24/7 with any emergency situations. Students will also have access to the Guardian study abroad safety app which includes emergency assistance and other support resources.

Program eligibility requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.8 (on a 4.0 scale).*
  • Be the equivalent of at least a 2nd semester Sophomore (strongly recommended).
  • Submit your completed application along with supporting documents and your deposit by the program deadline.
  • Be in good academic and disciplinary standing with your home institution.
