My Education (ME)

CAPA has developed a unique educational framework called My Education (ME).

What is My Education?

CAPA developed our My Education Program to ensure that you, the student, can map out your cultural experience and make it relevant to your academic courses and personal learning goals abroad.

My Education is a rich and varied calendar of activities, events, lectures, walking tours and film showings which brings the concepts that you are studying in class together with your personal travel and study experiences.
Live abroad, don’t just study there.

My Education offers you an opportunity to dig below the surface of culture, to really make the city and nation where you are studying your home. My Education allows you to be an informed participant in the diverse and vibrant culture of the city, and to be more than a tourist.

You will have the opportunity to choose from a range of activities with varying styles of presentation. This allows you to pick a session that speaks to you and your way of learning.

Some examples of ME sessions offered in the past few months include:

  • Walking Tour and Curry in Brick Lane, London
  • Flamenco dancing in Spain
  • Cooking classes in Italy
  • Wine tasting and vineyards tours in Sydney
  • Tour of BBC Broadcasting House
  • Attending the Ceremony of the Keys at the Tower of London

This style of learning is a unique and valuable opportunity to make the most out of your time studying in another country.

How does it work?

Each CAPA center presents a ME Calendar to all students and faculty. The ME calendar is designed for you by local staff and faculty as a way to help you get the most out of your time in your study abroad destination. My Education brings theory to life in fascinating and challenging ways.

The events, activities and reflective sessions listed are designed around significant academic themes such as Community and People, Government and Power, Landscape and Time, and Arts and Culture. Participation in these activities will give you an intelligent, well-rounded, and in-depth view of the city and country in which you are studying.

ME activities are either staff-led or self-directed. Every week, one item will be selected as the ME Event of the Week, and further information will be given on this highlighted event in hand-outs and in a weekly ME-Mail, delivered directly to your inbox!

CAPA professors integrate the My Education activities into their courses and assessment, so that not only will you be gaining truly fascinating perspectives into the local culture, you will gain credit in your classes, with the chance to reflect, write and present on your experiences.

When you go abroad with CAPA, you will learn about real people and real issues in the location where you live, work and study.

  • “I’ve been to several lectures, all of which have given me a bit more insight than I could glean from a surface interpretation of the subject matter treated in the lectures. They are wonderful tools for going a bit more into depth on various topics concerning London without spending lots of time or money doing so.”
  • “ME events provide a direct and informed experience to the city you are studying in, rather than always floating about aimlessly not really appreciating all that you can.”
  • “I feel that the ME events have been very beneficial to my experience in London. They have enabled me to experience a side of London that I would not have been able to on a normal vacation. This makes me feel like a real citizen of the country.”
  • “Each event gives me perspective about many diverse aspects of life in London. I enjoy participating because it helps me feel less like a tourist.”

What CAPA students say

"I have to say that participating in the CAPA London Program was truly the best decision I could have made for my study abroad experience. Not only was the staff helpful and ready to aid in my concerns but also warm and friendly. Where else could I have the opportunity to do an internship and take classes at the same time? I certainly got great career and hands-on work experience that will aid me in a future career. Aside from the education and friendly nature, being in London itself was a dream. Getting to walk down Kensington High Street, take a stroll in Hyde Park, meet celebrities, or even take in a show in Leicester Square - every day was unbelievable! The memories, friends and effect that CAPA had on my study abroad experience will stay with me forever."
