Oxford, the City of Dreaming Spires, is famous the world over for its university and place in history. For over 800 years, it has been a home to royalty and scholars, and since the 9th century an established town, although people are known to have lived in the area for thousands of years.
Classes are held in Oxford University buildings such as Pembroke College, Oriel College and the Examination Schools (the big exam hall on the High Street where many of the undergraduate Oxford humanities courses are held). CAPA courses are taught by professors from your home campus and local professors and are designed to fit the requests and needs of your US institution.
Students live within commuting distance of the main University area in homestays. Host families are usually located in Kidlington, a charming suburb to the north of Oxford. It is about 20-25 minutes by bus to the town center of Oxford.
CAPA students are encouraged to participate in meetings, discussion groups and cultural evenings organized by CAPA to facilitate immersion into the British culture. These can range from punting excursions to pub quizzes, concerts and lectures.
