Dear Administrator,
I welcome the interest of all Education Abroad Advisors and Administrators. Whether you are looking for information on our individual enrollment programs or want to learn about working with CAPA to develop a customized program for your campus, I want to thank you for taking interest in CAPA International Education. I would like to introduce you to the academic structures of CAPA International Education, in order to demonstrate our oversight of all faculty, teaching and internship experiences whilst your student studies abroad. We want our students to be challenged and rewarded by their intellectual surroundings in their valuable time being educated abroad.
Dr Sarah McKenzie
The Chief Academic Officer
The Chief Academic Officer in London, Dr Sarah McKenzie, is responsible for the development and implementation of academic standards and policies in CAPA centers world-wide. In each CAPA center, an appointed academic representative works closely with the Chief Academic Officer to ensure that academic standards are maintained and assists in the recruitment and management of CAPA adjunct faculty.
Department of Academic Affairs
CAPA International Education has established and continues to develop comprehensive standardized policies, procedures, and outcome assessment tools to enhance and support the academic activities of its Program Centers worldwide.
The Department of Academic Affairs has oversight of all of CAPA’s educational activity and is responsible for all of the academic aspects of the CAPA Program Centers, including internships and the educational value of such experience.
The Department’s mission is to provide management of the total holistic educational and experiential development of our Learning Abroad students. This is achieved through oversight of both traditional academic curriculum and experiential learning courses, management of internship placements and fostering their educational value, and development of the My Education co-curricular calendar of events in order to create an all-encompassing learning environment throughout CAPA education abroad.
The mission of the Department of Academic Affairs is to:
- be both a direct and implicit advocate for students and faculty
- provide excellent teaching, holistic learning, internships linked to experiential learning, and scholarship for students and faculty
- provide faculty, staff, internship sites and environments that are conducive to excellent student learning
- foster an innovative and effective learning environment that respects the diversity of individual backgrounds, abilities, cultures, and interests
- be flexible, embracing change as a continual improvement process
The Department’s leadership includes the Director of Academic Affairs (Dr Maryélise Lamet, the convener), the Chief Academic Officer (Dr Sarah McKenzie), and the Director of Experiential Education (Ms. Terry Sheen). The Department of Academic Affairs convenes twice a month to discuss all academic matters, including total education, course development, syllabi, evaluations, faculty meetings, internships and experiential learning, student academic issues and grade appeals.
The CAPA Academic Advisory Board (AAB) provides advice and counsel on the development and maintenance of CAPA Program Centers. The AAB is composed of faculty and administrative experts in the field of education abroad. Board members serve as individuals with no implied or explicit expectation that their institutions approve or recommend their students use CAPA Program Centers.
CAPA Faculty
We are very proud of our outstanding faculty in all sites. They all have Masters or PhD qualifications, and have a wealth of experience in instructing American students and bringing the cultural relevance of the host country into the classroom at all levels, and in relevant and interesting class visits.
